Group meditation
Scheduled group meditations are held for practitioners of all types of meditations for both the experienced and novice. If you are interested in experiencing meditation in a group this is a perfect opportunity. For beginners who might not know how to meditate we can teach you a simple meditation technique to use so you can begin to experience the wonders of meditation and see if it is something you’d like to explore further.
These sessions are free. They are available to help support those who meditate and also as another way to help others experience the wonders of meditation. Please consult the schedule for the time and location of the sessions.
Why meditate in a group?
When we meditate we create a positive energy, or a coherence around us. So when we meditate we share in the positive energy that others create and they share in ours. It has been reported that the amount of coherence that is generated when we meditate in a group, is greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Are there other benefits to group meditation?
Yes, one of the benefits of meditating with others is the ability to have some one else watch the time. While this might seem like a big issue, it can help you let go and get more relaxed and allow you to reach a deeper state because you don’t have to be worried about how much time has past, has it been too long, or not long enough...
The other benefit of meditating in a group is just congregation of like minded people, the sanskrit word for this is “satsang” from sat= true and sanga= company. When you are around people who uphold the same ideas and beliefs there is an energy created that is greater then the sum of it’s parts. This is the reason why 40,000 screaming fans can help the home team achieve something they might not be able to on the road where 40,000 fans could be rooting for their opponents. When you gather with people who support you, it feels good. And feeling good is enough to make it worth it on it’s own!
Ayurveda
So what is Ayurveda?
It is the 5,000 year old healing system from India and is referred to as the Science of Life. It is based upon the concept that the same intelligence that flows in nature flows in every cell of our body. Therefore understanding the basic building blocks of nature allows us to better understand ourselves. When we know and understand our natural state of balance we can begin to look at our lives and find where it is out of balance and begin to regain balance through different choices in our lives.
• Derived from the Sanskrit words ayus meaning life, and veda meaning wisdom, Ayurveda, the wisdom of life, offers a proven guide for attaining happiness, vitality, love, and purpose
• From the Ayurvedic perspective, human beings are not viewed as mere thinking physical machines, but rather as fields of intelligence in dynamic exchange with the energy and information of the environment
• Health is more than the absence of disease; it is a dynamic state of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing
• Health, happiness, vitality, and beauty are the fruits of a balanced life
• Balance is achieved through lifestyle choices that nourish body, mind and soul
• Yoga and mediation are essential tools to support a healthy and peaceful mind and body
• Our environment has a profound influence on how we feel
• Education, services, and products that engage all five senses - sound, touch, sight, taste, and smell can enliven our inner pharmacy
• Creating a harmonized daily routine is a necessary step to achieve Perfect Health
Doshas
Ayurveda is built upon Doshas, or mind-body types, which are based up different combinations of 5 elements, Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. These five elements organize themselves into three principles of life: movement, metabolism, and protection, or more commonly referred to by their Sanskrit names, Vatta (Wind), Pitta (Fire), and Kapha (Earth). These are the forces that are primarily responsible for characteristics of our mind and body. While it might be a little confusing at first it will quickly begin to make sense.
These doshas, Vatta, Pitta and Kapha, are the forces which govern every natural function, and regulate every process within our mind and body.
Because we are unique expressions of nature, each of us has an inherent tendency towards one or more of these principles. This explains why we each respond differently to the same stimulus, and why some of us display stronger characteristics of each of these principals. For example some of us might naturally be more “earthy,” while others are clearly more “fiery” or “airy.”
It is said that when have balanced Doshas we have health, and an unbalanced Dosha leads to an unhealthy state where sickness can occur, in both the mind and the body.
It is therefore important for us to know our doshas and to understand that the activities we partake in and the energy and information we take in can greatly affect our mind and our body. When we eat and participate in activities that help us keep a balanced dosha we can live a life that makes full use of our potential.
Once you determine your ideal state of balance, you can begin to find where you are out of balance and then intervene using diet, herbs, aromas, music and meditation to regain balance.
A simple, fun questionnaire is all it takes to determine your Ayurvedic element that is strongest in your nature. Take the Chopra Center Dosha Quiz to find out your Dosha!

"Any reason for practicing yoga is a good reason. Enhancing flexibility and releasing stress are as noble a purpose for performing yoga as the awakening of spirituality. This is the great gift of yoga it serves and nourishes us at every level of our being and spontaneously contributes to greater well being in all domains of life. Yoga will help you discover gifts within yourself that have remained unopened since your childhood gifts of peace, harmony, laughter, and love."
from The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga by Drs. Deepak Chopra & David Simon
Yoga asana practice is an important part of keeping your body and mind in good health. By having a regular Yoga practice you can begin to more deeply integrate a deeper union of your mind, body, and soul.
